自答

Some people say society give the rights of animals enough consideration, but others don’t. In my opinion, we need not take the rights of animals into consideration very much. I would show the reasons for my opinion in the following.

First of all, I think generally law or rule in human society should be applied only for human itself. We should form rules that makes human happy as much as possible. Suppose one example; the use of animals in experiments. Animal experiments give us some important data for our life, which can save the lives of a great number of people. Who neglects their lives?

Another important point is individual freedom. We have right to buy or sell almost all things except human body, that include some animals. That is, people in pet industry have the right to sell them and live their lives.

We know people who think we should consider, or admire animals as religious or cultural traditions. Of course we should consider such people because of individual freedom, but they also should consider other people with different traditions.

Of course we hope our pets live happily. But, from the reasons stated above, I cannot say rights of animals is more important than human prosperity.

On a superficial level, it may seem that animals have got it made. Pet owners in this country, for example, often dote on their animals. Delve deeper, though, and a very different story emerges.

Animal experiments are one example. Many researchers argue that due to the genetic similarity between humans and animals, experiments can help us discover the cure to fatal viruses and diseases. But what do animals get out of this?

Most of us cannot imagine life without meat, milk, or other animal products. For me, however, the issue is not whether or not we should consume such products, but the processes we use to obtain them. The poor conditions at factory farms give no consideration to the rights of animals to enjoy life.

Finally, the increasing number of endangered species is a clear indication that the rights of animals are being sidelined. For example, deforestation of rainforests to build cattle ranches has destroyed habitats and pushed wildlife to the brink ? all so we can enjoy cheap meat and animal products.

Ultimately, animals themselves are in no position to push for change. As such, it is our duty as humane people to reconsider the minimum level of rights that animals should be given in today’s society.
